Founded in 2007 to serve the urban community, we partner with public middle and high schools to offer credit bearing academic programs, internships, mentoring, and college readiness. Our youth development platform uses sailing, boat operation, and boat building to further academic skills and instill the qualities of character necessary for college and career success. We also serve the broader community through affordable marine education and recreation for individuals, groups, schools, businesses, and families.
Hudson River Community Sailing develops leadership and academic success in underserved New York City youth through sailing education and provides maritime education and recreation to the community at large.
The instructors were nice and the class size was intimate and small - lots of one on one time with the different "stations" of the boat! The only thing I would recommend improving is to slow down a little bit at the beginning and give some actual structured "teaching/instruction" about the boat. We rushed through the vocabulary and technical aspect and didn't even get a basic on how sailing "works" until we were basically in the water. Maybe "learn as you do" works for some people but since it was a one-off beginner's lesson I would have expected a little bit more than just a quick overview. The instructors also had some sort of weird competitive "I know more than you do" vibe going on which was weird but they were super fun and nice so no worries about that.
I thought this class was very well done. By the time I actually sailed I knew what the terms meant even though at first it seemed like there was too much to comprehend! So enjoyable and fun!
Very small class (two of us, actually) meant very hands-on instruction. I felt like a sailor by the end of the 2 hours!
This was an anniversary present for my hubby. I am deathly afraid of deep water but I had an amazing time! Make sure you eat beforehand and drink plenty of water!
Great introduction to sailing. Instructor was fun to work with and show the ropes (figuratively and literally).
Loved it. Got a sunburn though. Hurray.
The class was fantastic--so nice to be sailing across the Hudson on a Spring weekend!
Excellent staff, professional and knowledgeable.
very educational and the instructor was friendly.
It was bad weather-class should have been cancelled. Otherwise it was a good class.
