The story of Spinning® starts with a man named Johnny Goldberg – “Johnny G”. Johnny G developed the Spinning® program in 1987. He was training for a cross-country bicycle race called “The Race Across America” (a 3,100-mile bicycle race from Los Angeles to New York City). During one night training he was nearly killed on the road. Thus prompted his decision to bring his night training on the bicycle indoors. This was when he started to envision constructing a commercial training program.

When Johnny G and Mad Dogg Athletics pioneered the indoor cycling category, they created the Spinning® experience.
